about.
Manoah Biesheuvel is a Scheveningen-based visual artist working across film and photography. Since graduating from HKU University of the Arts Utrecht in 2007, he has developed a multidisciplinary practice that moves fluidly between film directing, documentary, and photographic work.
With a background in Fine Art, his approach is rooted in observation and reduction—focused on capturing what exists beneath the surface. His work explores the tension between inner unrest and external stillness. Through a minimalistic visual language, he creates space for emotion, vulnerability, and reflection.
At the core of his practice lies a strong interest in human behavior and motivation. Themes such as emotional intensity, physical and mental limitation, and the search for rest are recurring throughout his work. Whether working in moving image or still photography, his images are immersive and deliberately restrained.
His process begins with a blank canvas. Each project is approached intuitively and developed with precision, resulting in distinct visual narratives where no outcome is ever the same.
Manoah’s work has received international recognition, including Best Score at the Swindon Independent Film Festival (UK) and Best Documentary Feature at the San Diego IKFF (USA), and has been featured in publications such as Marie Claire, Mixmag, Travel + Leisure, &C, and DJMAG.
Alongside his artistic practice, he collaborates with brands and clients through Studio Biesheuvel, creating concept-driven visual work that bridges art and storytelling.
